Laminin – a cell adhesion protein molecule, created by God with a message… check this out!!!

Listen to Louie Giglio talk about “Laminin”

Laminins
are major proteins in the basal lamina (formerly improperly called “basement membrane”), a protein network foundation for most cells and organs. The laminins are an important and biologically active part of the basal lamina, influencing cell differentiation, migration, adhesion as well as phenotype and survival.[1]

Laminins are large trimeric proteins that contain an α-chain, a β-chain and a γ-chain, found in five, three and three genetic variants, respectively. The laminin molecules are named according to their chain composition. Thus, laminin-511 contains α5, β1 and γ1 chains.[2] Fourteen other chain combinations have been identified in vivo. The trimeric proteins form a cross, giving a structure that can bind to other cell membrane and extracellular matrix molecules.[3] The three shorter arms are particularly good at binding to other laminin molecules, which allows them to form sheets. The long arm is capable of binding to cells, which helps anchor organized tissue cells to the membrane.

The laminins are a family of glycoproteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding in almost every tissue of an organism. They are secreted and incorporated into cell-associated extracellular matrices. Laminin is vital for the maintenance and survival of tissues. Defective laminins can cause muscles to form improperly, leading to a form of muscular dystrophy, lethal skin blistering disease (junctional epidermolysis bullosa) and defects of the kidney filter (nephrotic syndrome).[4]

Isn’t this amazing?

This email letter (see below) was forwarded to me this morning; and I looked it up on the internet, and all of it is legit!

God never ceases to blow my mind; and even as the Bible says, truly… We are fearfully and wonderfully made!

This is one of my favorite scriptures in the Bible; and just listen to the message that it conveys:

Psalm 139

For the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

1 O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O LORD, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.

7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
9
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall[a] on me,”
Even the night shall be light about me;
12 Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You.

13 For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;[b]

Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15 My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.

17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!
18
If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand;
When I awake, I am still with You.

19 Oh, that You would slay the wicked, O God!
Depart from me, therefore, you bloodthirsty men.
20 For they speak against You wickedly;
Your enemies take Your name in vain.[c]
21 Do I not hate them, O LORD, who hate You?
And do I not loathe those who rise up against You?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred;
I count them my enemies.

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
24 And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.

God has truly made Himself known throughout the beauties and intricacies of His creation; and we as His created beings are truly without excuse for not recognizing His handiwork; and this is especially true today, with all the advances we have in science.

I believe that God has created each one of us, with a measure of faith (even as the Bible says we are) so that we can recognize the TRUTH when confronted with it; and really as we understand our Bible, and what Truth really is, “Truth” is not a philosophy, and nor is it merely a statement of belief; but Truth is a person:

John 14:6

6 Jesus said to him, “I am the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”

Look also at Colossians:

Colossians 1:15-17

15 He (Yeshua—Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.

All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

So as the Bible says, “We are without excuse.”

Romans 1:16-23

The Just Live by Faith
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,[a] for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”[b]

God’s Wrath on Unrighteousness
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

So if the God of creation, who has wound this world up and has set everything in motion, with such intricacies and beauty, that it is infinitely more complicated than a Swiss Watch, then how much more is He involved with us, in our lives, and even as Psalm 139 says, in the Living Translation:

Psalms 139:13-18

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.

16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.

17 How precious are your thoughts about me,[b] O God.
They cannot be numbered!
18 I can’t even count them;
they outnumber the grains of sand!
And when I wake up,
you are still with me!

So if the God of the universe is that concerned about you and I, can we not also trust Him to lead and guide our lives, through whatever trials and tribulations that we might encounter, along life’s path?  Of course we can!

But it starts only as we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ, as our personal Saviour, as we acknowledge and accept His redemptive work, which was purchased for us on Calvary’s cross; and then it doesn’t stop there, because we much also make Him both Lord and Master of our Life!

This is the Gospel message folks, which has the power to save our soul!

Let us not take this message for granted, but let’s pay attention.

Shalom,

Skip Barland

Subject: FW: The Cross in our bodies.You must read VAD]

I personally really like all of Louie Giglio’s sermons, I have many of his DVD’s and watch them quite often they are very interesting and this one I have also, you should watch it I think you can find it on youtube.com if I remember correctly

Subject: The “glue” that holds us together…

shared by an anonymous doctor

A couple of days ago I was running (I use that term very loosely)
on my treadmill, watching a DVD sermon by Louie Giglio…
And I was BLOWN AWAY!
I want to share what I learned….
But I fear not being able to convey it as well as I want.
I will share anyway.

He (Louie) was talking about how inconceivably BIG our God is…
How He spoke the universe into being…
How He breathes stars out of His mouth that are huge raging balls of fire, Etc. Etc.

Then He went on to speak of how this star-breathing, universe creating God
ALSO knitted our human bodies together with amazing detail and wonder.

At this point I am LOVING it ( fascinating from a medical standpoint, you know)….

And I was remembering how I was constantly amazed during medical school
as I learned more and more about God’s handiwork.
I remember so many times thinking…
‘How can ANYONE deny that a Creator did all of this???’

… Louie went on to talk about how we can trust that the God who created all this, also has the power to hold it all together when things seem to be falling apart… how our loving Creator is also our sustainer.

And then I lost my breath.

And it wasn’t because I was running my treadmill, either!!!
It was because he started talking about laminin.
I knew about laminin.

Here is how Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laminin; describes them:

‘Laminins are a family of proteins that are an integral part of the structural scaffolding of basement membranes in almost every animal tissue.’

You see… Laminins are what hold us together.. LITERALLY.

They are cell adhesion molecules.
They are what holds one cell of our bodies to the next cell.
Without them, we would literally fall apart.
And I knew all this already.
But what I didn’t know is what they LOOKED LIKE.
But now I do.
And I have thought about it a thousand times since (already)…
Here is what the structure of laminin looks like…
AND THIS IS NOT a ‘Christian portrayal’ of it…

If you look up laminin in any scientific/medical piece of literature,
this is what you will see…
Now tell me that our God is not the coolest!!!
Amazing. The glue that holds us together….. ALL of us….
Is in the shape of the cross.

Immediately Colossians 1:15-17 comes to mind.

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth,
visible And invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;
all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and
in Him all things HOLD TOGETHER. ‘
(Colossians 1:15-17)

Call me crazy. I just think that is very, very, very cool.

Thousands of years before the world knew anything about laminin,
Paul penned those words.
And now we see that from a very LITERAL standpoint,
we are held together… One cell to another… By; the cross.

  1. Greetings to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. I am a Paediatrician working in Papua New Guinea and I got absolutely blown away when I watched Louie Giglio’s video and tears just kept rolling down my face. Laminin is stimulating and very exciting to me.Truly we are fearfully and wonderfully made, Praise God
