God sent a man before them, named Joseph!
|Psalm 105:16-22 (GOD’S WORD Translation)
16He (God) brought a famine to the land.
He took away their food supply.
17He sent a man ahead of them.
18They hurt his feet with shackles, and cut into his neck with an iron collar.
19The Lord’s promise tested him through fiery trials
20The king sent someone to release him.
The following sermon was forwarded to me by my friend Ed, now living down under with his new wife, in New Zealand.
The preface to the message reads as follows:
I would love to give the Pastor of this predominantly black church in Virginia a hug and a high five. This guy is obviously a leader.
Perhaps we should each decide who our real leader is… It is amazing to see that very little has changed in 4,000 years.

Scriptures: Gen 47:13-27
Good morning, brothers and sisters; it’s always a delight to see the pews crowded on Sunday morning, and people eager to get into God’s Word… Turn with me please in your Bibles, if you will, to the 47th chapter of Genesis; we’ll begin our reading at verse 13 and go through verse 27.
Brother Ray, would you stand and read this great passage for us? …Thank you for that fine reading, Brother Ray.
So we see that economic hard times fell upon Egypt, and the people turned to the government of Pharaoh to deal with this for them. And Pharaoh nationalized the grain harvest, and placed the grain in great storehouses that he had built. So the people brought their money to Pharaoh, like a great tax increase, and willingly gave it all to him in return for grain. And, this went on until their money ran out. Once again, they were hungry.
So when they went to Pharaoh after that, they brought their livestock – their cattle, their horses, their sheep, and their donkey – to barter for grain. Verse 17 says this took them only through the end of that year.
But the famine wasn’t over, was it?
So the next year, the people came before Pharaoh and admitted they had nothing left, except their land and their own lives. “There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh.” So they surrendered their homes, their land, and their real estate to Pharaoh’s government, and then sold themselves into slavery to him, in return for grain.
What can we learn from this, brothers and sisters?
That turning to the government instead of to God to be our Provider during hard times only leads to slavery? Yes…, this is the reason government wants to become our provider; it knows it can ultimately become our master. Yes! Yes! Yes!
But now look look here, how that passage ends, brothers and sisters! “Thus, Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen. And they gained possessions in it, and were fruitful and multiplied greatly.” God provided for His people, just as He always has! They didn’t end up giving all their possessions to the government. No! It says they gained possessions!
But I also tell you a great truth today, and an ominous one. We see the same thing happening today. Once again, the government wants to “share the wealth,” to take it from us, and to redistribute it back to us. It wants to take control of healthcare, just as it has taken control of education, and ration it back to us. And you know, brothers and sisters when government rations it out, then government decides who gets it, how much, and what kind.
And if we go along with it, and do it willingly, then we will wind up no differently than the people did in Egypt some four thousand years ago. We will become as slaves to the government –and as slaves to the government’s leaders.
What Mr. Obama’s government is doing now is no different from what Egypt’s Pharaoh did then; and, my brothers and sisters, it will end in the same way…
A lot of people like to call Mr. Obama a “Messiah,” don’t they? I ask you, is he a Messiah? Is he truly a Savior?
After Pharaoh made the Israelites his slaves, did they ever say, “You have saved our lives, Pharaoh? Did they ever say, “If it pleases our lord, we will be servants to you, Pharaoh”?
Well, I tell you this – I know the Messiah; the Messiah is a friend of mine; and Mr. Obama is no Messiah! No, my brothers and sisters, if Mr. Obama is a character from the Bible, then he is Pharaoh.
Bow with me in prayer, if you will.
Lord, You alone are worthy to be served, and we rely on You and You alone. We confess that the government is not our deliverer, and never rightly will be. We read in the eighth chapter of 1 Samuel when Samuel warned the people of what a ruler would do; where it says “And in that day you will cry out because of your king, whom you have chosen for yourselves, but the LORD will not answer you in that day.” And, Lord, we acknowledge that day has come. We cry out to You because of the ruler that we have chosen for ourselves as a nation… Lord, we pray for this nation. We pray for revival, and we pray for deliverance from those who would be our masters. Give us hearts to seek You and hands to serve You, and protect us, Your people, from the atrocities of Pharaoh’s government.
In Jesus Holy Name we pray. AMEN.
As we examine this well put sermon, what it says is so very true; that the consequence to our looking to man as our source always leads us to enslavement and bondage. This was never God’s plan for mankind, and the reason we can know that is true, is by reading the Bible.
God placed Adam and Eve in their own little paradise or piece of heaven on earth if you will, in a place called Eden.
It was there we learn from Scripture that the Lord would come in the cool of the evening and would walk with them, and commune with them.
God made man, we learn from scripture, for His pleasure; for them to have dominion in the earth; but that dominion was to be exercised in league and in unity with God; where man would choose to fellowship with and obey His Creator.
As always there is always a test; and God’s test for Adam and Eve was that they could partake of every tree in the garden for food, save for one, and that was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.
That tree alone God said belonged to Him, and the moment they would eat from that tree God said that they would die… first a spiritual death, meaning their relationship and fellowship with God would end; and in time that also translated to physical death too, as they were barred from partaking of the Tree of Life.
When God choose King Saul to be King of Israel, after Israel demanded an earthly king to rule over them, God said it was because they were rejecting Him; and He warned them what would happen with an earthly king.
It’s in Samuel 8 that we read about this story, and it says there that when Israel demanded a king, they were rejecting God, and were rejecting that He should rule over them.
God had a purpose in not giving Israel a king up to that point. It was because He did not want them to put an ungodly trust in the king, instead of trusting in the LORD.
Now, Israel is rejecting this plan of God, and declaring that they do not want the LORD God to reign over them.
God then tells Samuel to warn the nation of Israel, to show them the behavior of the king who will reign over them.
In I Samuel 8:10-18, we read of this warning:
So Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who asked him for a king. And he said, “This will be the behavior of the king who will reign over you: He will take your sons and appoint them for his own chariots and to be his horsemen, and some will run before his chariots.
He will appoint captains over his thousands and captains over his fifties will set some to plow his ground and reap his harvest, and some to make his weapons of war and equipment for his chariots.
He will take your daughters to be perfumers, cooks, and bakers. And he will take the best of your fields, your vineyards, and your olive groves, and give them to his servants.
He will take a tenth of your grain and your vintage, and give it to his officers and servants. And he will take your male servants, your female servants, your finest young men, and your donkeys, and put them to his work.
He will take a tenth of your sheep. And you will be his servants. And you will cry out in that day because of your king whom you have chosen for yourselves, and the LORD will not hear you in that day.”
No, God’s plan was always that He alone would rule over us; and throughout history, as we learn from the Bible, because of our disobedience, and our breaking covenant with God, God often would send a famine into the land, and would withhold the rain.
I can only imagine, though this is not specifically mentioned in the Bible, in this particular story, but I imagine that the reason for this famine, that God sent Joseph ahead to prepare for, was also because man had broken covenant relationship with God.
There are many people among our brothers and sisters who are quick to tell us that God chose Obama to be our president, and I do not at all disagree with them; for often God chooses a wicked ruler to bring punishment, not to destroy His people, but rather to bring them back into union with Him and cause them to repent and to honor their covenant.
This is what I see happening in America today; where we have people (and this is especially true among the Christians) who have allowed wickedness to reign in our nation’s capitol for so long, as time after time we have elected godless men to represent us.
These godless men have made our laws, laws that have killed our babies and enslave our people; and now that this has been going on for so long, our nation is at the brink of economic ruin; and things are going from bad to worse; but still the people, even Christians, are oblivious to what the true problem is; and they are looking again to man, and not to God to be their savior.
I am convinced that the deceit that was prophesied about in the White House, that it is coming from the man who sits in the White House; who is but a religious chameleon.
By that I mean, when it serves his purposes, he calls himself a “Christian,” or sometimes he’s a “Muslim,” depending on who he is speaking to; but truly the only one I believe he believes in is his own political ambition and his own lust for more power and mammon for himself.
I believe that God is still weighing America in the balance and that He is still waiting on Christians to take action, in order to take back our country; and that action starts on our knees, as we follow 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Where it says we are to humble ourselves before God; turn from our wicked ways, and repent (meaning we change the way we think); and then as we begin to seek after God’s face, which speaks to our returning to that same communion and relationship that He once enjoyed with Adam and Eve, in the Garden, then God’s promise is that He will heal our land. Selah
The next thing I’d like to point out is the need for Christians, in the USA, to study our history and the formation of our Constitutional Republic, as well as our Bible; but the reason why they need to study the formation of our country and our U.S. Constitution is because we are being robbed blind by dishonest men and women in Washington DC who are themselves violating their oath of office, and they don’t have the slightest intention of preserving, protecting and defending our Constitution!!!
Quite the contrary, that one document is all that is keeping them from achieving their one goal of their handlers, and their god, who is Satan, from establishing His New World Order.
Wise up folks and pray, don’t be so naïve!
This is our future we are talking about, and the future of our children; and if we don’t care enough to take action to protect it, as countless others have, and still are today, in our military, then who else will?
Watch and pray, and wake up is all I have to say!
