The Good Shepherd
David’s poetic praise to God
The Lord is my Shepherd…
“If He be a shepherd to no one else, He is a Shepherd to me. He cares for me, watches over me, and preserves me.”

In Psalms 23, David describes the Lord’s loving care for His own people as a shepherd’s devotion for his flock and a host’s provisions for his guests.
Psalm 23 is a profound testament to God’s loving care, guidance, and provision for His people.
It is an assurance that no matter how difficult or dark the circumstances may be, we can always find peace and strength in the Lord.
Verse 4 says, “Even when your path takes me through
the valley of deepest darkness,
fear will never conquer me, for you already have!
Your authority is my strength and my peace.
The comfort of your love takes away my fear.
I’ll never be lonely, for you are near.”

The psalmist represents his relationship to God as a sheep to his shepherd, not lacking any rest, guidance, or safety.
As we trust in God and follow His guidance, we are reminded that His goodness and mercy are everlasting, and that we can look forward to an eternal dwelling in His presence.
The Guiding Path and Valley of Shadows
He restores my soul; He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
David recognizes God as a restorer of souls and a guide along the righteous path.
He speaks of faith and courage in the face of darkness and fear, asserting that God’s presence is a comforting reassurance.
Feeling lonely?
Look to Jesus – He will never leave you nor forsake you!
In fact, He sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in you.
He loves you and is for you!
He is leading you, guiding you, speaking to you, and comforting you!
He is your strength and your Shalom-peace.
He is also your Jehovah-Rapha, The God Who heals you from all your infirmities!
