Together with Jesus we’ve got this…

Dear President Trump,

As happened with Moses in the heat of battle, Aaron and her came alongside him to hold his arms up when he became weary.

Exodus 17:8-13
The Message

8-9 Amalek came and fought Israel at Rephidim.

Moses ordered Joshua: “Select some men for us and go out and fight Amalek. Tomorrow I will take my stand on top of the hill holding God’s staff.”

10-13 Joshua did what Moses ordered in order to fight Amalek.

And Moses, Aaron, and Hur went to the top of the hill.

It turned out that whenever Moses raised his hands, Israel was winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, Amalek was winning.

But Moses’ hands got tired. So they got a stone and set it under him.

He sat on it and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on each side.

So his hands remained steady until the sun went down.

Joshua defeated Amalek and its army in battle.

Aaron and Hur stood by Moses’ side and held up his arms to ensure victory against Amalek.

As your Christian brothers and sisters, so are we holding up your hands each and every day, in our prayers and intercession!

In 1 Samuel 17, we are told that the battle belongs to the Lord.

In songs, in sermons, in podcasts, it seems that fellow believers are encouraging us to remember that regularly.

But I’ll be honest, when I turn on the news or look on social media…it doesn’t always look like we’re winning.

And our hearts can often feel discouraged.

It would be easy to allow fear or complacency to take over, but thank goodness, the Lord has given us reminders in His word that He is faithful…no matter how the battle rages on.

Remember the story of David and Goliath, as an example of how trusting in God helps us slay the “giants” in our lives.

I remember listening to this story in Sunday School, how David, a small shepherd boy, armed with only a slingshot and five smooth stones, defeated a giant because He trusted in God.

This battle that you’re fighting already belongs to the Lord, and our victory is assured, as long as we keep our focus on Jesus, and as long as your faithful intercessors, in our nation and around the world, continue lifting up your arms up, in the battle, until the victory comes.

Shalom shalom,

Skip Barland
