Psalm 46 says:Psalm 461God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. 4There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High. 5God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early. 6The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted. 7The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah. 8Come, behold the works of the LORD, what desolations he hath made in the earth. 9He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire. 10Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. What follows (below) is some very good advice, from Jim Goll, on our learning to listen to, and discern, the voice of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Truly Psalms 46:10 is one of my favorite verses of scripture; and it is because of something the Lord showed me a while ago, which I will share with you here.
God is eternal, meaning that He doesn’t exist in time and space. We, as part of His creation are all linear thinkers, and we see time and space as in line, that has a start and finish… but that’s not so with God!
What science would call our time/space continuum is all a part of God’s creation, which He created for us, for our benefit; but it is not where heaven is, and it is not where God resides.
Of course, certainly He enters into our realm, from time to time; and Yeshua (Jesus), who is Himself God incarnate, was born into it; but nevertheless God exists outside of both time and space.
So actually, what we refer to as “ETERNITY” is not a long time, not at all; but it is the absence of time all together.
From God’s perspective, He can even take us out of our time and space continuum, where we exist our time, and He can reinsert us anywhere else, whether in the past, or in the future; as I believe He did when He showed Moses, in Genesis, what happened during the creation; or when He showed John the Revelator the end of days, in the Book of Revelation. I believe in both instances, Moses and John actually saw the events they wrote about in the Bible.
Though this all may hurt our brain to think about, it is what it is; and it is my belief, anyway, that what I have described here is the nature of the world we live in; and also it is an example of our Omniscient (all knowing) God, to know the end from the beginning, on any issue… including every detail and circumstance of our life!
Psalm 139:13-16
13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out
before a single day had passed.
How else would all of this be possible, for God to know each one of us in this way, before He laid the foundation of the world; to where we each even have a book in heaven, with our name on it; where God has scheduled each and every day of our life!
Not only that, but the Bible also says that He has predestined our life, and that we each have a specific plan and purpose, and a destiny that God desires for us to fulfill.
From our point, the first order of business, or every individual, sometime between when they come into the world, and before they leave, they must have an encounter with God, which comes when they begin to seek after God, with all of our heart, mind and strength; and then having been born-again (without which Jesus said that no one can see the Kingdom of Heaven—read John chapter 3), we then must learn to die to self; and then pick up our cross daily.
As the Apostle Paul put it, we are as in a race, where we must learn to discipline ourselves, in order to win the prize… which for us is to spend eternity with our Lord and Saviour, and with our Heavenly Father, as members of His reconciled and restored family!
In order for us to win this race, however, it is not necessary for us to be the first to cross the finish line; but only that we not quit, and that we stay in faith.
Along this path, called our life, we are to stay in constant communion and in fellowship with our Lord, through the intimacy and fellowship of the Holy Spirit, which has been given to us, who now lives equally inside of every one of us who have been born-again.
The Bible even teaches that for all those who have made Jesus Lord of their lives; who love Him; and who are also about their Father’s business, and are called according to His purpose… that for those people God will enter in to every circumstance of their life (both the good and the bad) to work it together for their good. Selah
What an awesome and wonderful truth that is, and an absolute blessing and comfort for us to know, that truly God is involved with every single detail and aspect of our life!!!!
What the Lord showed me was that in our life, all too often, owed to the many stresses, trials and tribulations that we are faced with, in the course of our life, our minds are all too often focused on something we fear will happen tomorrow; OR we are regretting some mistake or error in judgment that happened in our past… and if our mind is in either one of those two places, then we are totally missing God; who is ONLY available to each of us in the space of this present moment… in the what we call the “NOW!” Selah
Shalom,
